As many of you know, I've found new authors that I absolutely love on BookBub. One of them is Jennifer Madden, who owns the Military Romance and Suspense genre.
Her Embattled/Lost and Found series reveals emotionally flawed men and women, all combat veterans, who have been either physically or emotionally modified by their combal experiences.
My absolute favourite character she has created is John Palmer, a no-holds-barred- Marine whose injury cost him his ability to walk. He more than makes up for it with his attitude and mouth. I absolutley love John Palmer and since he has found love with Shannon, the man gets even more apealing.
Madden has a spin off series, Dogs of War, in which John's younger brother Adien is featured.
While we are all cushy in our 'safe' homes and spaces, we seldom think about the men and women fighting to 'protect' us from those whom may wish to harm us. On the flip side, we are so caught up by fear that we seem unable to resolve issues without confrontation.
Think for a moment about the orphaned boy or girl who feels that the only 'family' they may ever have, will be in the military. Think for a moment about that same person, being so badly injured and having to leave the military with no support whatsoever.
Before I read Jennifer Madden, I never thought about those issues. What happens to a young man or woman without family support who is discharged from the military due to serious injury, like John Palmer. Sure life goes on for them, but how?
